Our Curriculum

Staff use a range of strategies and teaching styles to provide the opportunity for all children to achieve their potential, whilst recognising each child’s individuality and special needs. 

The school offers sequential curriculum programs using the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) framework (see table below). These programs are delivered through an integrated approach and are enhanced by various enrichment and special assistance programs.

Integration of Information Technology into the Curriculum

The school has an extensive computer network that is integrated into each classroom.  Students regularly access computers in each classroom, as an integrated part of their learning in many curriculum areas. 

The school is also connected to the Internet and boasts a computer literate staff that is committed to on-going professional development in this area.  The development of proficiency in the use and application of Learning Technologies throughout the school is one of our major priorities.

Other technologies which staff and students make use of to enhance the learning experience include:

• Interactive whiteboards
• Laptops and Netbooks (These are on trolleys and every child has access every day)
• Cameras, video and recording equipment and
• A wide range of educational software to build and develop skills.

Video Conferencing technology

Communication is a key learning skill and students using videoconferencing can gain opportunities for higher level thinking via live face-to-face interaction with peers, tutors or experts from around the world. Video Conferencing in the classroom can enrich the existing curriculum in many ways such as:

• creating dialogue between foreign language students
• holding a global 'show-and-tell'
• sharing experiences with students from different cultures
• enhancing travel buddy projects
• discovering alternative views about the news
• learning about remote environments
• enhancing distance learning

We are continually strive to provide the children with the most up-to-date technologies and the platforms for their use.

Homework

Homework occurs outside of school hours.   It may include conversations with your child, reading, completing work from school, projects, collecting information, spelling, tables, etc.   Homework is a valuable aspect of the learning process and contributes to the growth and development of the student.   It allows for the development of sound study habits.  A Homework class is run on a Thursday afternoon from 3.00pm until 4.00pm.  Signed consent forms (available at the office) are required before any child can attend this class.
